Circa 1890’s
Professionally framed and matted.

Charles A. Vanderhoof (American, 1853-1918) was born in Middletown, New Jersey. He was a painter, etcher, illustrator, teacher and writer. Vanderhoof was able to improve the dry point etching process, which is a type of etching that only allows for about an edition of ten before the plate must be discarded.
Most of his scenes were of New York City harbors and architectural achievements, England and Holland European etchings, Western landscapes, or Civil War scenes.
Charles Vanderhoof was a member of The New York Etching Club and helped found The Art Students League of New York. He was a well respected teacher at Cooper Union.
