Cannon And "Genl Taylor Never Surrenders" - "A / Little / More / Grape / Capt Bragg" Historical Flask, probably Baltimore Glass Works, Baltimore, Maryland, Circa 1848. Aquamarine, sheared mouth - tubular pontil scar, pint. GX-4 (Comparatively Scarce).  A flask with beautiful glass clarity and the strongest mold impression that we have ever seen. Very fine condition.

General Zachary Taylor was a nationally recognized hero for his outstanding commanding of our troops at the Battle of Buena Vista. His popularity rose to a peak during the Presidential Election of 1848. General Taylor was such an idol at the time that there were nearly three dozen different flasks embossed honoring him during the election. Needless to say, he won and became the 12th president of the United States of America.

The embossed lettering of "A little more grape Captain Bragg" is a reference to a remark made by Taylor to Captain Bragg at the Battle of Buena Vista. Grapeshot (or “grape” as referred by General Taylor) was the ammunition consisting of a number of small iron balls fired together from a cannon.
